E21 Production Models


In 1977 BMW mated the new six-cylinder M60 (aka baby-six) with the E21 chassis. It immediately became a big success with the aficionados.

The 2-liter six-cylinder installed in the 320/6 was the smallest production six-cylinder in a compact car. Its silk-like run was an immediate success with many a buyer and reaffirmed BMW's fame as an engine builder.

The 323i marked the pinnacle of available power matched with a low-weight chassis. Its 143 bhp made for many a grin on the driver's part and kept him on his toes as well as booting out of a wet roundabout became a wholesome experience - aptly described as tricky at best  :)
